My name is Nicholas Ricci, and I enjoy wearing Band-Aids on my fingers and hands. Lots and lots of bandages, all shapes and sizes. Fortunately, I discovered glass as my medium.
A number of years ago, after buying a particularly pricey Murano bowl on eBay, I thought to myself, “Hmmm, I bet I can make the style of glass I like better and cheaper than this.” Wrong on both counts! But a new pursuit was born.
Fusing is a constant battle between two poles - geometrical precision versus heavy organic nature, functional versus ornamental display, deeply layered versus delicate. The ordered stitching of my piece Tartan Steps versus and blooming growth of Elysian Fields.
I carouse within this paradox, with the inherent tension feeding my creative approach and execution. What is forged through this process are unique objects that seek to be both admired and used.
My glasswork is a transformative medium of light, color and contradiction that hopefully stirs the emotion and brings joy to those seeing it … as much joy as I gain creating them. I hope there is a piece in my collected works that calls to you.
